LinkedIn for Startups book cover
A practical guide for founders

LinkedIn is a traction tool, not another to-do item.

You’re building a product, hiring a team, talking to customers, pitching investors, fixing bugs, and finding sleep where you can. LinkedIn for Startups gives you a systematic approach built from four simple blocks – because this is where your next investor might be watching, your first users might comment, and your future hires might be lurking.

Book Overview

Building blocks for founders, not growth hacks

When I first arrived in Sydney, the first thing I bought wasn’t a coffee machine – it was the LEGO® set of the Sydney Opera House. I’ve always loved breaking big ideas into simple building blocks, and that’s exactly how I think about using LinkedIn as a startup founder.

You’re not just building a presence. You’re building a platform, one brick at a time. This book follows a framework of four connected steps – Complete, Connect, Content and Convert – a repeatable system for attracting the right people and moving them from curiosity to conversation.

While advising early startups like MyRisk, mentoring at the incubator bMightie and volunteering at Open Coffee Sydney, many founders asked me to write a version of Connect & Act for startup and scaleup companies who don’t yet have the resources to run LinkedIn activities with dedicated staff. That’s why I wrote this book!

The LinkedIn Bricks Method

From quiet profile to active presence

This is the same principle I teach in my webinars and customer engagements.

The LinkedIn Bricks Method — Complete, Connect, Content, Convert, shown as stacked LEGO bricks
Step 1

Complete

A profile that builds silent credibility with investors, customers and future hires – not a CV nobody reads.

Step 2

Connect

Build the right circle deliberately – investors, customers, partners and supporters, before you need them.

Step 3

Content

Show up with content that builds trust and interest, in your own voice, without eating your already-thin founder hours.

Step 4

Convert

Turn attention into momentum – relationships that move from curiosity to conversation, without being pushy.

These are the same four steps I wrote in LinkedIn for Startups, built for the reality of running a startup.

About the author

Gunnar Habitz

Gunnar Habitz moved to Australia in 2016 after a layoff from his corporate career in Switzerland, spanning consulting, product marketing, business development and sales management across Europe. He turned that transition into the weekly LinkedIn blogging series – #socialsellingmonday – and later into a systematic method for professionals and founders alike.

While advising early startups like MyRisk, mentoring at the incubator bMightie and volunteering at Open Coffee Sydney, he saw founders treat LinkedIn as an afterthought – despite it being where their next investor, first users and future hires were already watching.

Today he is Senior Partner Manager at ActiveCampaign, working with marketing agencies and their clients across Asia Pacific, holds the Chartered Manager designation from the Institute of Managers and Leaders, and serves as a Board Director at Sydney’s historic Castlereagh Boutique Hotel.
